Take care of your new mattress! It makes sense to do everything possible to maximize the life of your new mattress. Buying a new bed is a significant investment, both in money and time. Not only will a new mattress require a financial investment, but most people spend 30% of their lives asleep…that’s a lot of hours in bed! At Fred’s Beds, we recommend the following steps to care for and extend the life of your investment:
Use a protector. A basic antimicrobial mattress protector will wrap around a mattress like a fitted sheet. The protector will shield it from spills, sweat, dust mites and a host of other destructive maladies. For those with allergies or other concerns, a more advanced model will zip on to fully encase the mattress. This protects it from both above and below.Fred’s Beds offers protectors in two styles from Malouf, a leader in bedding textile technology. The basic “Sleep Tite” antimicrobial, waterproof protector will meet the needs of most individuals. However, individuals with allergies can find additional protection from the “Encase” model. The “Encase” zips around the mattress to protect it on all six sides. Check out Fred’s Beds mattress protectors at http://freds-beds.com/frames-sheets-pillows/sheets/
Rotate often. Mattresses should be rotated frequently, especially in the beginning. Rotate head-to-foot twice a month for the first six months, then once every two to three months. Frequent rotation will ensure your mattress wears evenly, thus minimizing uneven dips and extending mattress life.
Vacuum once a month. The foam layers often become compressed from being slept on every night. While a protector will shield your mattress from dust and dirt, vacuuming will help to expand the top layers of foam.
Taking these measures will add years to the life of any mattress!
